CHAPTER HISTORY
The Mu Gamma Chapter was chartered on the campus of Georgia College on April 23, 1976. Through the progressive work of Brothers H. Donald Black and Joe D. Lindsey, Epsilon Beta Lambda Chapter, Dr. Helen Hill (Dean of Student Relations), and nine young men who wanted to bring to Georgia College the ideals and principles of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Mu Gamma Chapter was founded. Those nine young men were Robert Davis, Bennie Goodson, Michael Iteogu, Sandy Know, Joe Nunnally, Frank Patman, Larry Stephens, Jerry Thorpe, and Clarence Williams. They began the legacy of success that has continued to shine the light of Alpha.
Since the beginning of Mu Gamma Chapter, the brothers have been active on the Georgia College campus, the local community, and in the fellowship of the fraternity, winning numerous awards and titles. Our brothers have led other organizations and shown that we are the standard when it comes to fraternity men on campus. They have excelled to a point in which they became signs of hope, inspiration and leadership for the others around them to follow.
On the campus the Brothers have participated and held offices in Black Student Alliance, Council of Student Ambassadors, Greek Council, National Pan Hellenic Council, University Senate, Student Government Association (SGA), resident assistants and intramural sports. Brothers Marcus Green and Juawn Jackson both were elected to serve as President Pro Tempore of the SGA. Brother Jackson would go on to be elected SGA President in Spring 2014. Additionally, Brothers Jackson and James Bridgeforth both served as student senators to the University Senate.
The chapter and brothers have garnered the title of Greek Man of the Year, Mr. Georgia College, Greek God, Georgia District College Brother of the Year, Georgia District College Chapter of the year and Georgia College Fraternity of the Year. In the local community the Brothers have aided in blood drives, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Boys and Girls Club, served as speakers at churches, schools, and other community functions.
To this day, the Brothers of Mu Gamma Chapter continue to uphold the principles of the fraternity and the initial goals set by the nine young Brothers who were the Pearls of Mu Gamma at Georgia College.
